Sailing & Boating Holidays in France
Sun, sea and sailing – the three magic words to set an old salt’s heart alight. And whether you like water-skiing behind a boat or relaxing with a glass of wine while enjoying the view from one, a mobile home holiday with Siblu is the perfect choice. Not only are many of our parks ideally situated for water activities, one of them actually has a dock and boat launch so you can take your own boat on holiday with you! La Réserve holiday park in Aquitaine has a private marina for mooring boats and you can also pull your sailing dinghy up on the beach at our boat launch. |
The Atlantic Coast may be famous for its waves, but there are plenty of more protected bays and large lakes near our parks where you can hone your sailing skills in safety. The perfect example is La Réserve holiday park right on the banks of the the huge Lake Biscarrosse. If you don’t have your own boat, you can hire dinghies at La Réserve. There is also tuition available for all levels and ages, from our partners Nautil Club and Ski Club, so no one need feel left out. The calm lake, surrounded by beautiful pine forest, is brilliant for beginners and in the afternoon a good breeze often builds up for some exciting sailing for the more experienced. Younger members of the family may want to stretch their sea legs with paddle-boarding and catamaran sailing before joining you on the boat. Other members may want to enjoy the sun and peaceful scenery from the comfort of the lakeside bar… Whatever seafaring activity (or inactivity) you choose, you’ll find everything you need at La Réserve. Les Viviers, also in Aquitaine, is another great choice of holiday park for a sailing holiday. It is right on the shores of the beautiful Arcachon Bay, a huge, protected body of water ideal for water sports, sailing in particularly. Slightly further North, in Charente Maritime, the Bay of Bonne Anse is another beautiful spot to sail in safety, protected from the Atlantic swell by to a large sandbank. Check out the La Palmyre sailing school if you're staying at Bonne Anse Plage or Les Charmettes. Meanwhile, from La Pignade you can enjoy sailing lessons and boat hire in the protected Marennes Bay |
Les Sables d’Olonne in the Vendée is, of course, the start and finish point for the famous single-handed round-the-world sailing event the Vendée Globe – the ‘Everest of the seas’. After sailing south down the Atlantic, participants sail from west to east via the three major capes of Good Hope, Leeuwin and the Horn before heading back to France’s west coast. You may not be entering the race (this year!) but ]you can spend the summer weeks practising your moves so at least you can supply an informed opinion about the outcome. As you’d imagine, facilities for experienced and would-be sailors are extensive in the region and our holiday parks Le Bois Masson (a more lively atmosphere!) and Le Bois Dormant (a bit more laid back…) are the ideal base from which to launch your adventures. You can also reassure the landlubbers in the group that there’s plenty to entertain them at the campsite – from sports to restaurants to local sightseeing – while you’re out ‘on the water’. |
